Cryptocoryne cordata var. siamensis is a striking aquarium plant known for its marbled leaves with dark, prominent veins and reddish-purple undersides. Under moderate to intense lighting, it initially forms a compact rosette no taller than 10 cm, but with time, especially in low light and nutrient-rich environments, it can grow over 20 cm tall. Propagation occurs through underground stolons that produce young plants, eventually forming dense, lush stands.
This slow-growing species is adaptable to soft and hard water, thriving in fish-stocked, low-CO2 tanks with dim to moderate light, though it also responds well to high light and CO2 supplementation. Optimal growth occurs with nutrient-rich substrate and temperatures between 22 and 28 °C. When grown emersed or in shallow water, it may produce yellow spathes on a long tube, adding a unique visual aspect to aquariums.
