Limnophila hippuridoides

€5.90
Limnophila hippuridoides is a striking stem plant from the Malayan peninsula, often confused with Limnophila aromatica, but it has more than three leaves per whorl. It features reddish to deep purple-toned submerged leaves and a light green stem, with shoots around 6–10 cm wide. Ideal for mid- to background placement in larger tanks, it grows 20–50 cm tall and thrives with strong light, CO₂, and nutrient-rich conditions. Prefers soft to medium-hard water and temps between 22–27 °C. Propagated easily via cuttings, it's a fast grower and vibrant focal point.

Price per: 3 stems.

Limnophila sp. 'Vietnam'

€6.95
Limnophila sp. 'Vietnam' has only been known in Europe since around 2010 in the aquarium hobby, and it is still hard to come buy. This delicate plant is a great discovery for aquascaping. Given that it is under intensive light it develops creeping well-ramifying 3 to 4 cm wide shoots, which makes it a great ground cover. Dense populations grow higher after some time, comparable to the much slower-growing Staurogyne repens. With L. sp. 'Vietnam' you can create dense bushes that can be kept in form by regular trimming. This plant is especially well-suited for "mountain" layouts, e.g. creeping down a hill or as light green accent between rocks and driftwood. Its decorative appearance is enhanced by its very narrow, pointed leaves growing in whorls and the star-like shoot tips. Under strong light, the central veins of the leaves and the stems can assume a reddish hue.

Price per: 5 stems.

Limnophila sp. 'Belem'

€7.90
Limnophila sp. 'Belem' is a very attractive mid-ground plant. It also works well as background plant. Limnophila sp. 'Belem' branches nicely and is easy to propagate. It has a very nice color and serrated leaves. This plant is considered a moderate plant to grow. CO2 is needed for nice growth but not necessary for sustained growth. Under higher light it can get a purple color bleeding through the green leaves.

Price per: 3 stems (grown emersed).

Limnophila aromatica (L. punctata blume)

€5.35
When hobbyists talk about Limnophila aromatica, they usually indeed mean L. hippuridoides, originating from the Malayan peninsula. This plant, often wrongly called "L. hippuroides", has a significantly larger number of leaves per whorl than L. aromatica (6 to 8, sometimes even more). When under strong lights, it is of an intensive, beautiful deep red, with pink leaf undersides. The real Limnophila aromatica, however, is not very widely spread in the aquarium hobby and its habit and looks are less striking than those of L. hippuridoides. In its submersed form, it has 2-3(-4?) leaves per node. It is a very variable species, there are green forms and those with different reddish hues. As its scientific name suggests, its leaves have a more or less aromatic scent when crushed, as they contain essential oils (most prominently, limonene). From Taiwan, a variety has been imported that is light green when submersed and that has 3 to 8 leaves per node. It corresponds to the description of Limnophila aromaticoides, which is today treated as a synonym of L. aromatica.

Price per: 3 stems.
