This attractive moss has a very bushy growth habit, yet remains quite delicate. It resembles 'Christmas moss' very closely, but it is much more delicate and stays smaller. This moss develops dense, regularly ramifying shoots with almost rectangular lateral shoots. Mini Christmas moss attaches readily to rocks and driftwood and is thus ideal for accentuating hardscape materials. It can be used in many ways. Mini Christmas moss is ideal for aquascaping, however, it can also be used in standard aquaria very well. Its fine, delicate structure makes the tank look larger, and thus you can play with proportions very well to create the illusion of a larger tank.

Vesicularia reticulata "Erect Moss"

Vesicularia reticulata ("Erect Moss") has a growing popularity among aquarists. Its vernacular name already hints at the growth habit of its stems and branches when they are cultivated submersed in a tank: upright. Its emersed form has a creeping habit, though. Like "Christmas moss" (Vesicularia montagnei), V. reticulata is widely distributed in the Asian tropics, where it is found in moist habitats. Under the microscope you can see that the leaves of this plant are ovate to lanceolate with an apiculate long tip. However, not only Vesicularia reticulata appears to be traded under the name erect moss, but also a Taxiphyllum species with an upright growth habit. On the other hand, the moss erroneously sold under the name "Craton(n)euron filicinum" could be in fact V. reticulata. As aquarium plant, V. reticulata grows best with moderate to intensive light.

Vesicularia cf. montagnei 'Krabi'

This moss was discovered in one of the calcareous lakes near Krabi in the south of Thailand. Bryologist Prof. Benito C. Tan (Singapore) found out that it is related to Vesicularia montagnei but wasn't able to determine its exact species. It looks very much like the moss called Vesicularia sp. 'Mini Christmas Moss', however, its shoots are more rigid. Vesicularia cf. montagnei 'Krabi' has dense, regularly branching delicate shoots that attach to rocks and driftwood with the help of their rhizoids. It comes from a lake with a high carboate hardness and thus does well in hardwater tanks.

Vesicularia ferriei 'Weeping', commonly known as Weeping Moss, is believed to originate from China and has been distributed by Oriental Aquarium Plants. 'Weeping' is a fleshy, 1-3 cm tall hanging moss with teardrop-like bright green shoots. It is best attached to driftwood or roots, as its drooping growth pattern helps to create depth and contrast in the aquarium. 'Weeping' has low demands, is fast growing and should be pruned frequently with scissors to maintain an attractive shape.
